New Roles for Ruth Lefton
Ruth Lefton has been appointed Chief Operating Officer for Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, home of the largest independent academic medical center in the Philadelphia region; Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, a full-service medical and surgical specialty hospital; MossRehab, a world-renowned provider of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative programs; and Willowcrest, a short-term subacute rehabilitation and nursing facility with a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Lefton has been part of Einstein Healthcare Network for more than 20 years, having served as Chief Operating Officer for MossRehab, Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, and Willowcrest for the past 14 years, and prior to that, she was Assistant Vice President for MossRehab.
“Ruth is a tremendous asset to our organization, having guided MossRehab and other clinical services through substantial growth in recent years,” says Barry R. Freedman, President and Chief Executive Officer for Einstein Healthcare Network. “I am confident that Ruth’s strong leadership abilities and her deep commitment to our patients, employees and physicians will serve us well.”
Some of Lefton’s accomplishments over the course of her tenure include: adding several million dollars to MossRehab’s bottom line by opening four new inpatient and six new outpatient locations; relocating MossRehab’s headquarters and 130 specialty rehabilitation beds from the Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia campus to the Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park campus; increasing market share of inpatient volumes for MossRehab; and working with an interdisciplinary team to increase MossRehab’s national prominence, moving from #15 in the nation on U.S. News & World Report’s list into the top #10. She also helped to lead a team that integrated Elkins Park Hospital into Einstein Healthcare Network.
In addition to her work responsibilities, Lefton served as a board member, Education Committee Chair, and as a member of several ad hoc and standing committees for the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association; a board member of Allied Orthotics & Prosthetics, LLC; Conn-Kerr Cancer Center; and Fair Fund. She is a former Chair of the Board of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania Medical Rehab Division and is also former Chair of the Pennsylvania Association of Rehabilitation Facilities.
