Brain Injuries Common, But Treatment Can Help
Fans of Philadelphia-born actor and comedian Bob Saget learned last month that his death in January was caused by a severe brain injury, probably the result of a fall in his Florida hotel room.
Although the exact circumstances of his fall are unknown, head trauma is a common cause of injuries – from a mild concussion to coma – and even death. In the United States, it leads to more than 220,000 hospital stays and more than 60,000 deaths each year.
At MossRehab, the Drucker Brain Injury Center offers specialized, comprehensive care for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other brain injuries. Its accredited programs are designated by the U.S. government as a Traumatic Brain Injury Model System.
In this article on the MossRehab blog, Center Director Thomas Watanabe, MD, talks about brain injuries, who is at risk, the signs and symptoms, and what to do if you may have suffered this type of injury.
