Do you feel awkward around someone in a wheelchair? Or do you get really comfortable? Maybe you relax so much that you lean on the chair as you’re chatting.

Hmmm, bad idea. To people in wheelchairs, the chair is an extension of the body, and part of their personal space. In this video, AJ, who has used a chair for 25 years, offers some advice on what to avoid when interacting with people in wheelchairs.

The video is one of a series, part of MossRehab’s “It’s Just Respect” program. It’s all about providing a more comfortable experience for people with disabilities in the community.
