Proper Helmet Fit Essential for Safety

By on 12/26/2018

You’ve got the new bike, scooter, or skateboard. Now you’re ready to buy the helmet.

Don’t just pull one off the shelf, casually glance at the size and dash off to the checkout line.

For a helmet to do its job, keeping you or your child safe, it needs to fit properly.

Nearly half a million children are evaluated and treated in America’s Emergency Departments each year because of injuries due to bikes, scooters and skates. Accidents happen, and when they do, a helmet may be the only thing between your head and a serious brain injury.

In this video, Madeline DiPasquale, PhD, explains how to make sure that a helmet fits properly. DiPasquale is a clinical neuropsychologist at the Drucker Brain Injury Center, part of MossRehab.
