It’s hard for most people to imagine what it’s like to wait for a life-changing organ or tissue donation. Each year, the number of people on the national transplant waiting list grows at a higher rate than the number of organ donations. Every 10 minutes, a person is added to the list. Over 20 people in the U.S. die every day because a donor organ is not available.
Even though many people are aware of the benefits or organ donation, only about half of eligible Americans are registered organ donors. Why are so many people reluctant to register as organ donors? Because of the myths surrounding organ donation that simply aren’t true.
